New: a kitchen section and four guides to kitchen measurements

A new kitchen conversions page and four guides: cups to dl, Fahrenheit to Celsius, spoon measures and grams per decilitre.

Konvertera.nu has a new section for the kitchen. Kitchen collects what you need to convert the measurements in a recipe, and four new guides each cover one topic. Both are under Guides in the menu.

Kitchen

The page has a converter for cups, decilitres, millilitres, tablespoons, teaspoons and the Swedish spice measure. Below it are tables for Swedish kitchen measures, US measures, oven temperatures and what a decilitre weighs.

Four guides

  • US recipe measurements: cups, tablespoons, sticks and ounces in metric. A US cup is 2.37 dl.
  • Oven temperatures: Fahrenheit to Celsius, gas marks and the symbols on the oven. 350 °F is 177 °C, so set the oven to 175 °C.
  • Spoon measures: tablespoons and teaspoons in millilitres, and how they differ between countries. A Swedish tablespoon is 15 ml, an Australian one 20 ml.
  • Grams per decilitre: what a decilitre of flour, sugar, butter and other ingredients weighs. A decilitre of wheat flour weighs about 56 grams.

Where the numbers come from

The conversions use the same calculations as the site’s converters. The weights per decilitre come from the Swedish Food Agency’s measurements and from manufacturers’ own figures, and each guide names its source. Where we have no reliable source, we left the ingredient out rather than guess.

Every table can be printed, for example to put on the fridge.
