US measures in metric

US measure Metric
1 cup 2.37 dl (236.6 ml)
1/2 cup 1.18 dl
1/4 cup 0.59 dl
1 tablespoon (tbsp) 14.8 ml
1 teaspoon (tsp) 4.9 ml
1 fluid ounce (fl oz) 2.96 cl
1 pint 4.73 dl
1 ounce (oz), weight 28.3 g
1 pound (lb) 453.6 g
1 stick of butter (1/4 pound) 113 g

“Ounce” means two different things. In a list of weights it is 28.3 grams. A fluid ounce, or fl oz, is a volume of 2.96 cl. The guide to US recipe measurements converts a whole recipe.

Swedish kitchen measures

Swedish recipes use exact metric spoons. How they compare with US and Australian spoons is in the guide to spoon measures.

Measure Abbreviation Millilitres
Kryddmått (spice measure) krm 1 ml
Tesked (teaspoon) tsk 5 ml
Matsked (tablespoon) msk 15 ml
Deciliter dl 100 ml

Oven temperature: Fahrenheit to Celsius

Rounded to the steps on a normal oven dial. For exact values use the Fahrenheit to Celsius converter.

Fahrenheit Celsius, exact Celsius, on the dial
300 °F 149 °C 150 °C
325 °F 163 °C 165 °C
350 °F 177 °C 175 °C
375 °F 191 °C 190 °C
400 °F 204 °C 200 °C
425 °F 218 °C 220 °C
450 °F 232 °C 230 °C

Recipe temperatures usually assume a conventional oven. With a fan oven, most people lower the temperature a little. Follow your oven’s own guidance. Gas marks and fan ovens are covered in the guide to oven temperatures.

Decilitres to grams

What a decilitre weighs depends on the ingredient. Flour is light and milk weighs almost the same as water, so no single factor converts volume to weight. This is what 1 dl of common ingredients weighs:
