Convert bit to kilobyte

Here you can quickly calculate how many kilobyte fit in one bit.
  • 1 bit = 0.000125 kB
  • 1 kB = 8000 bit

Bit to kilobyte conversion table

bit kilobyte
1 0.000125
2 0.00025
5 0.000625
10 0.00125
20 0.0025
50 0.00625
100 0.0125

Formula to convert bit to kilobyte

To convert bit to kilobyte, divide by 8000.

1 bit = 0.000125 kB
Example: 1 bit = 0.000125 kilobyte

Common mistakes in data storage conversion

  • A byte is 8 bits, and the abbreviations differ only in letter case: lowercase b for bits (Mbit), uppercase B for bytes (MB). Broadband is sold in megabits per second while files are measured in megabytes. Mixing them up makes every figure wrong by a factor of eight.
  • In SI, 1 kB = 1,000 bytes, while 1,024 bytes is a kibibyte (KiB). Historically 'kB' has meant both, so different tools report different sizes for the same file. RAM is always counted in binary; storage media usually in decimal.
