Unit memory – a new free game for practicing unit conversion

Pair up cards that show the same quantity – 8 km and 8,000 m. A new free matching game for ages 10–12, with classroom modes and printable cards.

There is a new way to practice unit conversion on Konvertera.nu: Unit memory – a free matching game where students pair up cards that show the same quantity, for example 8 km and 8,000 m. The game is built for ages 10–12 and works just as well in class as at home.

Like everything else in the school section on Konvertera.nu, the game is free, ad-free and requires no login.

How the game works

Each card shows a quantity with a unit – like 65 cm or 650 mm. The task is to find the two cards that mean the same thing. A correct pair dissolves and reveals part of a hidden picture; find every pair and the picture is complete.

Mistakes are part of the learning: when a match is wrong, the game shows the error on the unit ladder, so students see exactly which step between units went wrong.

Made for the classroom

  • Ready-made levels for grades 4, 5 and 6 – pick a grade and the units and difficulty adapt.
  • Customize – choose a category (length, mass or volume) and how many cards to play with.
  • Big screen mode – larger cards and text for projectors and classroom displays.
  • Share with class – copy a link with your settings and paste it into Google Classroom or your LMS. Every student gets the same board.
  • Download game cards – the same deck as a downloadable A4 PDF with an answer key, for playing with physical cards.

The material is free to copy and share with students and colleagues (CC BY 4.0).
