Six new converters: force, torque, frequency, voltage, resistance and capacitance

Konvertera.nu has six new converter categories: force, torque, frequency, voltage, resistance and capacitance. They work like length and weight do: type a value, pick the units and get the answer instantly, with the formula and a table.

The new categories

• Force: newton, kilonewton, meganewton, millinewton, dyne, kilogram-force, tonne-force, pound-force and poundal. For example newton to pound-force.
• Torque: newton-meter, kilogram-force meter, pound-foot and pound-inch. For example newton-meter to pound-foot.
• Frequency: hertz from millihertz to terahertz, and revolutions per minute. For example rpm to hertz.
• Voltage: volts from nanovolt to megavolt.
• Resistance: ohms from microohm to gigaohm.
• Capacitance: farads from femtofarad to farad. For example microfarad to nanofarad.

Why these six

We recently published pages on the derived SI units, including the newton, hertz, volt, ohm and farad. Those pages explained the units but had nowhere to send someone who wanted to calculate. Now they do.

Force and torque also turn up in the workshop. Tightening torques appear in newton-meters, pound-feet and, in older manuals, kilogram-force meters.

Kilonewton has moved

Kilonewton used to sit under mass, which was wrong: a kilonewton is a force. It now lives under force, and the old addresses redirect automatically.

Force and torque also have their own conversion tables in the school section, for force and torque, editable and free to print, like the tables for length, mass and volume.
